The Food Secretary said that last year these three states had contributed only 6.7 lakh tonnes. But now there are preparations to increase it. However, the responsibility of wheat procurement lies with the Food Corporation of India, the nodal agency of the Center and the state agencies. But this time cooperative societies NAFED and NCCF have also been included with the purchase target of Rs 5 lakh this year. For wheat procurement this year, the MSP of wheat has been kept at Rs 2275 per quintal.

Wheat is the most important crop after paddy in the country. It is included in Rabi crop. It is most used in North India and North West. India is the largest wheat producing country after China. Wheat is produced the most in Uttar Pradesh, but this time Haryana and Punjab are in the news regarding wheat. Because wheat is purchased the most on MSP here. 

These are the largest wheat producing states
Uttar Pradesh comes first in wheat production, which produces about 32 percent of the wheat in the entire country. Madhya Pradesh comes at second place which produces 19 percent of the total production. Punjab produces 15 percent of the total wheat production while Haryana produces 11 percent wheat. Rajasthan comes at fifth position with 10 percent wheat production. Bihar produces 5.1 percent of the total wheat production, while Gujarat produces about 3 percent wheat. 1.9 percent wheat is produced in Maharashtra and 0.8 percent in Uttarakhand.

Haryana becomes number one state

Now the procurement of wheat has intensified, and so far about 70 lakh tonnes of wheat has been purchased. Till now Madhya Pradesh was leading in purchasing maximum wheat on MSP, which has now been left behind by Haryana. This time 31,25,635 tonnes of wheat has been purchased from Haryana while 29000 metric tonnes of wheat has been purchased from Madhya Pradesh. The government has set a target to buy more wheat at MSP this year. Because wheat in buffer stock has reached its lowest level in 16 years.
